Apart From Me, You Can Do Nothing
The parting words Greg Lernihan mentions in the FDI podcast are quite striking. Greg, who worked at Siemens for 20 yrs, and co-founded Convirgent Technologies, a $1 billion company, quotes John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing”. Greg did a great job in providing a framework for how to think about faith led investing – a 2x2 matrix, with financial returns on the X axis and spiritual returns on the Y axis.
But what really stood out about the podcast is Greg’s heart posture – of being a steward with his resources, of taking risk, and of trust. His goal is to be obedient to God.
We’d like to highlight one of his family’s investments, Indlu Partners. Based in South Africa, Indlu builds new units on a landowner’s property at no cost to the landowner, who is able to earn income from that property (first a portion of the rent, and then all). Indlu is a great example of a creative solution to both generating income and needed affordable housing.
May we remember that apart from Him, we can do nothing.
Lord, thank You that we are secure in your Covenant with us (Jeremiah 31:31-34). That we can grow, learn, and explore your truths in all things but specifically business and finance. We’re thankful to know and be loved by You. Help us to be obedient to You - not to earn your favor, but out of thanks for your abundant love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
